August Mahi, Kingfish, Wahoo bite

The bite has been relatively hot given that August is usually a slow time of fishing here in the Palm Beaches. If you're willing to make the run offshore anywhere from 650' to 1200' you'll find large weed patches that are holding mostly schoolie Mahi. They're biting live white bait as well as pitched cut baits. Drop a live bait down 60' - 90' and you're likely to find a larger Mahi or even a Wahoo. Kingfish are still being caught off the Juno Pier trolling cut bait on a down plane or slow drifting live bait. The Snook are thick in the inlets these days on the running tide. They're out of season until Sept. 1 and don't forget the slot limit: 28" - 33". The Wahoo bite has been pretty good with a number of fish being caught fast trolling 12 - 15 knots. The best time for Wahoo is dawn the 3-4 days just before and after the full moon. We've been catching Sailfish in 125' - 175' from the Loran Tower North to Stuart.
