Go Release Some Sails This Weekend

The sailfish action has been hot and fantastic. Today, they were free jumping, herding, and just in an absolute frenzy chasing bait on a day that would typically be an off day. A light south wind, nearly 80 degrees out, and a tight trough and length in the swell. But, the sails are just here and in a frenzy and are feeding all day. You will definitely get them in more numbers by having some goggle eyes, runners or sardines under a kite. People are getting a couple bumping live bait but flying a kite is the way to go if you want everyone in the boat to fight a fish. If your preference is trolling, a naked ballyhoo or a ballyhoo with a tiny non weighted skirt if the bait is skipping too much. If all else fails on the sailfish the dolphin have been extremely thick. Many small but did bring in a few bulls. Wahoo have been hitting and tonight (New Years Eve) will be the full moon. Expect a good wahoo bite over the weekend if you target them and don't be surprised if you have a live bait on a flat line get nailed by a wahoo or kingfish. If you want dolphin troll ballyhoo from the riggers and corners and look for something, an hour tops before you put something in the boat. The temps will be dropping tonight thru the weekend with lows in the high 30's low 40's and in the 50's-60's during the day. There will be a sailfish tournament out of Palm Beach Saturday and Sunday, so there will be traffic but Fri-Sun will be good days to fish. Winds and Seas may not be pretty but when you land multiple sails you won't really care. Also - If your just out having a fun day offshore Give the guys in the tourny's, these next couple weeks, the right of way; nothing is worse than paying big money for a sail tournament and some fellow (having fun trolling) cut your kite baits... {%image_id=7380%}
