Miami and Key Biscayne – offshore

Wash Out It has been a long time that I have gone more than a week with out fishing, but that is what happened this past week. The nasty winds and rain chased even the commercial boats back to the dock. My last trip out actually produced a nice catch and fishing was beginning to look good again before the rain sidelined us. Amberjack moved on the wrecks and Dolphin have been keeping us busy on full day trips. The amberjack seem to have showed up early with the bait migration and there has been some nice Grouper starting to show up on the deep wrecks. Two weeks ago a few twenty pounders were caught on our dock from the Wildlife with Capt. Pete. Capt. Dennis on the Freespool went commercial fishing last week and caught a good bunch of Dolphin, he said they were in 800 ft. on birds and floaters. If you were fishing this week I would try Dolphin first then move on the edge and try Kite fishing if there is enough wind. Kingfish are starting to show up along with some sailfish. The area out in front of Key Biscayne is a good spot to start for kings. Capt. Bouncer Smith reported catching a few Muttons on the shallow reefs off Key Biscayne while kitefishing and drifting. Bait has been good, lots of small sardines and cigars minnows are moving though the hawks channel area and they are nice size. I have not seen many Threadfins yet but they will soon show up.
