This time of year the winds pick up and make it uncomfortable to brave the big blue ocean. The best part about the areas we fish in the backcountry is that they are typically protected from the 20-25 knot winds that hammer the open reef edge. We took a trip yesterday afternoon, the winds layed down and it was a beautiful afternoon on Florida Bay. The mullet have started to thin out, but its a great time to take advantage of the fish that are still stuffing themselves. We watched the Red Full Moon come up over the eastern magrove shoreline and it was like a switch turned on. The fish started popping all over the place. In a short time we landed ladyfish, snook, and tarpon. We called it a day as the temperature started dropping and the wind began to pick up and were back at the dock after a 20 minute ride.
