Respect Those Barracudas! "Fish are fish, action is action" an McKenzie River angler-friend used to tell me. There are many fish on the flats to stalk, and the favorites are Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit. During cold spells, however, Barracuda, Shark, Jack Crevalle and Snapper are sometimes the only available species as the "Big Three" Grand Slam fish head into deeper (warmer) water. Unfortunately, cold fronts have invaded the Keys as of late making the fishing pretty tough in cold water. Heck, even a legend like George Hommel of Islamorada had trouble getting a Bonefish for former President George Bush (they were skunked in Bush's own tournament!) When the weather warms up again, we will find the Bonefish, Permit and even the Tarpon coming back with a vengeance! In the meantime, there are some great Barracudas out there for all of us! Before you travel to the Keys for some great fall Bonefish and Permit action, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
