Flats Warm Up = Fish Everywhere! We finally got the January thaw at the end of the month and the fishing got very hot, Tarpon everywhere! The Permit were everywhere too for a few days at least. The Bonefish showed up too and suddenly we had shots at Grand Slams! But it didn't last long enough and we just got another cold front (@*&%$#@!) Now the weather man says it will warm up but get windy again! Oh well, we can't win! When rejoicing the nice weather, we had some great Tarpon action and some good Permit and Bonefish action too. The water temperatures soared into the mid 70's from the low 60's, but now we are back into the high 60's again. Flats fish do not like water temperatures that are below 70 degrees. Bonefish, Permit, Tarpon, Barracuda, Jack Crevalle and even Shark hide in deeper water until it warms back up again. Tight Lines and warm winds! March through June can be excellent for Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit! So contact your favorite guide and set up your dates before the great fishing dates disappear!I have just launched a new web page that is linked to this one entitled "Women Fly Fishing in Key West Paradise". For those interested in checking out some great catches by lady fly fishers, jump to http://www.keywestflyfishing.com/women.htm The fishing should continue to be great for the time being. Here is an image of a fly fisher who had some February Tarpon Action that is on the new "Women Fly Fishing in Key West" page.Dawna landed this Tarpon in February, 1997! Before you travel to the Keys, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304.
