The Great Pompano Rides Again! Permit are everywhere! Permit like windy conditions as long as the water is clean enough for them to feed. The wind produces a "chop" on the water surface that provides extra "cover" for them on the flats. You can approach them very closely with the skiff before they will see or hear you and spook. This gives the angler a chance to cast the Permit fly into the strike zone of the Great Pompano, if the angler can manage to control the line and fly in the windy conditions. That is a big IF sometimes, because it is difficult to place the fly exactly where it needs to be (right in front of the fish) in breezy conditions.February and March are best for Permit, and the hot action should continue through the beginning of April. Before you travel to the Keys for some great fall Bonefish and Permit action, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
