July Tarpon Runs Happy Birthday America, Capt. Dexter and all you other anglers out there who were born on this national holiday! July has begun with a real BANG!!! We have been jumping and landing Tarpon daily. Who said Tarpon season is over? No way, Jose! These fish are averaging 50 to 90 pounds, with the occasional junvenile baby Tarpon. Here is Capt. Dexter "bowing" to a 90 pound Tarpon that he landed in 15 minutes. Here is a Palalo worm that was caught during the worm hatch in June (bottom right next to a SAGE Tarpon rod with a BILLY PATE REEL). The Palalo worm hatch occurred during the early and mid-June falling tides at dusk. The Tarpon usually go crazy for the orange-red and tan worms that hatch out of the rocky reefy bottoms. During one of the better days this past May, Jonathan Dyer demonstrates the "down and dirty" technique while fighting a Silver King Tarpon. The "down and dirty" is used to keep the Tarpon from getting a quality breath of air. There are plenty of opportunities to catch Tarpon this summer here in the Keys. Come on down and let's jump a few! Before you travel to the Keys for some great Tarpon, Bonefish and Permit action, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
