Chasing Tail on the Grass Flats! Every day this week has been a banner day for Bonefish on the flats. On the calm mornings, like today, they are tailing all over the grass flats on the gulf-side backcountry flats. Today we had shots at school after school of hungry bones. We hooked two fish in the 7-9 pound range and landed one. The fish kept coming and coming and we had at least a dozen good opportunities at hook ups. The bonefish were foraging for shrimp and small crabs on the turtle grass bottom. We were casting light shrimp imitations with no weighted head on them, because the wind was calm and the tide was low and we didn't want the "plop" of a weighted fly to spook them. There was only about 5 inches of water on the flat and it was very glassy, so we were forced to make long, "quiet" casts. Here is Scott with a nice Bonefish caught today. We also had some great baby tarpon action, and some willing jack crevalle.
