Flats Fish Prefer Fair Weather! There hasn't been much of a change in the Keys weather pattern since Feb. 5. We are still battling cold fronts bringing cool temperatures, clouds, rain, and variably windy conditions. The forecast is for cool weather and North winds til the 20th or 21st. of Feb., then a brief warm spell for a few days which should turn the fishing on a bit. Before our fishing turned cold, we were casting to and catching Permit like this one. When the water warms back up again, Permit should especially come back hard, as this February and March are the best months of the year for the Great Pompano. When the warm water returns the Tarpon will also be back with a vengeance! br> Here is a nice Tarpon caught in late January of this year. Tarpon will flood back in from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic, and backcountry channels, flats and basins will "load up" again with Silver Kings. Click here on this link to check out some Tarpon fishing video and available Tarpon dates for this coming April, May and June! With warm water, Bonefish will also turn on in backcountry flats and channel edges. You may contact Capt. Dexter Simmons for a future fishing charter by telephone at 305-745-3304 or by email at [email protected]
