December fishing brings Pompano, Jacks, etc. Dec. 5, 2006. The cold fronts are rolling through the Keys weekly now. Cooler air temps will mean cooler water temps and the fish will school up and show during mid-day for the most part. The winds will be in the North to Northeast this week, from 10 to 20 knots. That means that we will be fishing in protected areas that are not churned up by choppy waters. Permit and Bonefish are available as well as Barracuda, Shark, Jacks, Ladyfish, Pompano, Sea Trout, a few baby Tarpon and the occasional Redfish. Here is a typical small Pompano caught during December a few years back by Mike Mulvaney.Mike also caught Bonefish in December like this one. Mike also caught many Jacks like this one.
