Warmer weather on the way! Feb. 9, 2007. February has begun with some pretty harsh weather. Rainy, windy, cloudy days have resulted in many trip cancellations. However, we have just entered a normaling trend of weather. Winds are light, clouds are dissipating, and with any luck the water temps will climb back into the mid-70's. That will surely bring the fish back to the flats! Yesterday, we were fishing in the Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuge and we encountered some Permit in 69 degree water. The middle to end of February should see the Permit action increase, reaching its peak in March. The Tarpon should also become more and more available during the latter days in February and throughout March. The key is water temperature. We need consistently warmer water (temps from 75 to 78 degrees) to bring the Tarpon in.Bonefish are also available during February and March. There are grand slams taken during these months, especially when the water warms up into the high 70's and low 80's. Here is James with a February Bonefish, his first Bone.
