Fishing great in between cold fronts! January 15, 2008. The new year ushered in a cold spell for the entire Florida Peninsula including the Keys. The good news is that the water temps are back up into the 70's again and we jumped a Baby Tarpon yesterday morning in one of Capt. Dexter's secret creeks 20 miles or so east of Key West. There were about two dozen or so 10-20 pound fish cruising around in the creek and the water temp there was 74 degrees. A chartreuse clouser tied on a 2/0 hook fooled the 15 pound baby Tarpon. As we fish into the latter half of January and the months of February and March, the Permit will become more and more available on both the Atlantic and Gulf flats. These are the best months of the year to fish for Permit on the flats. As the water warms into the mid to upper 70's, Bonefish will be on the flats and ready to feed! We are also catching Barracuda, Shark, Mutton Snapper, Sea Trout, Pompano, Ladyfish, Jack Crevalle, and Cero Mackerel. When you are ready to book a charter or just talk fishing, contact Capt.
