Key West and Lower Keys

Summertime and the Fishing is Hot! The "Grand Slam Season" is still here in the Keys, and there are many opportunities for anglers to score on Big Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon on the flats, edges of channels, and saltwater basins. July and August are under-rated for flats fishing, probably because of the summer heat. The trick is to start early and chase the fish from channels to flats to flats edges, then back into channels again as the heat affects the water temps. There are many anglers who have never fished the flats and are anxious to try it. If you are one of those newcomers, then do yourself a favor and read up on the sport, watch the videos, and talk to the anglers in your area about flats fishing before you arrive for your charter. If you do your homework and practice your casting in windy conditions in fresh water, then you will be better prepared for casting and fishing on the flats. Before you travel to the Keys, call Capt. Dexter Simmons for a live report 305-745-3304. Tight Lines and Screaming Reels!
