Summer is a Great Time to Fish the Flats off Key West

The past week was quite fun down here on the flats off Key West. As long as the water stays below 90 degrees the fish seems to be happy. We're still finding a few tarpon swimming around on the ocean side flats. They are mostly resident fish ranging from 30 to 60 pounds, however, they seem fairly happy and ready to eat a well placed fly. The bonefish seems like they're quite plentiful, and ready and willing to participate in the game. Eager to eat a fly or artificial bait thrown to the as they crushing the flats - the bonefish have been averaging 4 pounds or better. {%image_id=55474%} Permit fishing has been average. As with most summer permit fishing on the flats. You find pockets or fish and if you're lucky you get a few shots. I would not suggest it has been a steady supply of tailing permit all day. I would say if you are ready, willing and focused and care to put in the time, you should get some decent shots. I'm enjoying the fishing so far this August. The weather man has been fair to us, not sending us lots of wind & rain or tropical storms. Capt. Lenny 305-304-0154 www.bonefishingkeywest.com [email protected]
