Cool weather.... hot bite in Marathon, FL Keys!

{%image_id=7101%}Unseasonably cold weather is upon us this week and this kind of extreme change in the weather usually ushers in some changes in the fishing as well. The cooler temps drive migratory fish south along the FL coasts as they seek warmer waters. Sailfish usually are showing up in big numbers by January, but this cool weather should make late December red hot. King Mackerel have already been biting, but this should be pushing school fish down in big numbers to add to the already thick cero and spanish mackerel we have been catching. Mangrove Snapper fishing on the Atlantic side patch reefs should be red hot again since that is what normally happens when the shallow waters of FL bay have a quick cool down pushing the fish oceanside of Marathon. Blackfin Tuna like to show up this time of year along the reef edge when the gulfstream is in fairly close. Yellowfin Tuna are showing up west of Key West and offshore of the Marathon hump in the Swordfish alley along the edge of the wall. Wahoo like to hang out on the edge of the gulfstream and can be found regularly if weather permits running offshore. This weekend should be excellent fishing as temps warm and the winds come around to the east. Good luck in all your fishing adventures!
