Dolphin Bite Dolphin fishing has been good off of Sombrero light near Marathon this week with good catches coming in from 12-30 miiles offshore of the 7 milie bridge. Best bet for bigger fish has been under birds in the 20-30 mile offshore range. Tom Wammack of Grassy Key, fishing with a friend a few days ago sent me an email with photos of a Swordfish carcass that was being munched on by a large Mako shark. He also sent me some pics of the Mako. Had to be a 500lb. fish. Frigate birds were working and that was what they found! They managed to flop what was left of the Sword in the boat and get some photos! Quite an exciting find on the open ocean 30 miles from shore. SO if you are into targeting large sharks on the offshore scene, keep your eye out for the Makos. Tarpon still good Tarpon fishing has slowed a bit at times but has been excellent around Bahia Honda bridge lately. Best tactics have been either fishing live blue crabs on the outgoing tide or fishing after dark with live baits or with fly. Fly fishermen have been scoring with large black flies in the dark and creates quite a surprise when the fish attacks the bait right next to the boat in the dark! Yellowtail on the Reef Good catches of Yellowtail snapper have been coming in from the reef lately. Evening or night trips have produced best, but the daytime bite has been good lately too. Look for the big 'tails in the 60-90ft range on the reef edge and chum extra heavily to get best action. Good luck in all of your fishing adventures! Capt. Bob Brown, Jr.
