Reef Bite Great

The reef fishing has been awesome for the past few weeks with Yellowtail Snapper being the main focus of anglers as the bite has been on and easy. Some large Mangrove and Mutton Snapper have also been on the menu lately with the Mangs coming off the shallow reef areas mostly at night and the Muttons coming from the deeper waters around wrecks and reef structure on the Atlantic side. Look for the reef fishing to slow a bit after tropical storm Faye comes by. Don't think that the storm will ruin the fishing however.... in previous years that had tropical storm activity, the bite on offshore fish was fantastic in the time right after the storms as floating debris that attract Dolphin and Wahoo is more plentiful adding to the areas were you can find these fish. Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin) Also, after Hurricane Wilma the area had a huge influx of spanish sardines causing the big gamefish to hang around and make for a fantastic winter season of fishing for sailfish, king mackerel and other travelers that will take up residence where there is a lot of food. So after the storm, the bite might be right for a good while! Good luck and stay safe this week in south Florida!
