May continues to be extreamly windy, furthering a long windy winter and spring along Brevard County beaches. Anglers are having to pick their days to venture down to the surf for a bit of fishing. Issues of rip currents were reported today in local newspapers, which does not always indicate poor fishing conditions, but often does. If you're bound and determind to go surf fishing right now, I advise anglers to get out as early as they can to avoid the windiest period of the day, which is usually after about 11:00 a.m. Use live sandfleas or fresh cut baits like shrimp and clam and try a 3 oz. weight, but don't be surprised if you have to switch to a 4 or 5 oz. Surf fair right now - whiting are the best bet, though anglers will find black margates, sheepshead, occasional black drum, sandperch and small sharks.
