Florida Surf Fishing Report for: Cape Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet Beaches are relatively calm with very mild wave activity along Brevard and Indian River county beaches. Anglers are still finding somewhat dirty conditions, especially at low tide, which may be left overs from recent afternoon storms. Rising and high tide periods are generally cleaner and offer better opportunities for finding whiting, margates and other species. Sandfleas are hard to find, and anglers should likely not rely on them being available - try purchasing fresh clam or shrimp from a tackle shop. Anglers using shrimp and clam around Indialantic and Melbourne Beach have been picking up a few pompano to 2 pounds, though these fish are not common during the summer and are widely scattered. Plenty of small sharks are also available in the surf, taking a wide variety of natural baits. Keep a look out for diving birds, especially terns, as they could indicate the presence of schooling glass minnows, which should attract Spanish mackerel into the shallows. Very small jigs and spoons are ideal for targeting the mackerel. Remember to use a short piece of steel leader as the mackerel have razor sharp teeth.
