Florida Surf Fishing Report for: Cape Canaveral to Sebastian Inlet Windy conditions are hindering many anglers from fishing along our coast. Sargassum weed and a strong tide are making holding bottom difficult as well as having to deal with huge globs of weed tangled in fishing line. Winds are likely to increase over the next few days, but decrease just before the weekend, which should give anglers a window of opportunity. When water conditions clean up, anglers should find good numbers of whiting to a pound, some slot-sized redfish and black drum, black margates and occasional bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Live sandfleas, when you can find them, are proving to be the best bait for the whiting and like fare, however, for anglers specifically targeting game fish like snook and redfish, try a live finger mullet on a sliding sinker rig and cast along troughs, around rock ledges or some type of structure. Spanish mackerel are most likely to be holding along beaches adjacent to inlets or in areas where schooling baitfish can be found. Look for diving birds as a good sign that mackerel are in the area and try casting a small spoon or other small baitfish imitation. Bluefish will take spoons, plugs, live and cut bait.
