Surf Fishing East Central Florida

The surf is far more suitable for swimming and snorkeling right now than fishing. Cold water upwelling has been predominant all through July and August, rather than the average 7 to 10 days. Small groups of baitfish are still present, mostly glass minnows and small schools of mullet and croakers, however, fish concentrations are low. Anglers are sighting dolphins (mammals) fairly consistently, however, whiting, snook, sheepshead, margates, jack crevalle, tarpon and other common summer species, have been scarce. Even the sandfleas are burrowing deep to avoid the cold temperatures. I'm hoping it doesn't take a hurricane to reverse this cold water situation, but, we might just have one, Fay, on the way, and maybe that will be enough to push this cold water back offshore. My recommendation is to wait for surf temperatures to rise before expecting to find much cooperation from the fish populations.
