Fishing Report for Miami, Florida

Stop the rain. It has been a frustrating week on Bouncer’s Dusky 33. We have delayed the stars and quit early on a regular basis due to continuing frequent rain in south Florida. Snook fishing has been good. We had four trips this week with several snook per trip. We caught them both mornings and evenings on the falling tide. Most were on live pilchards or herring, but we also got a few on lures. The fish ranged from 28 to 32 inches. Along with the snook we had quite a few jack crevalle, a few barracuda and a couple tarpon. It looks like the “big” tarpon season is winding down. We found a few around the inlet, but not many, and not many bites. Now the big ones will be found scattered in the bay and small tarpon will offer action around the inlet. Moving offshore, it was slow this week. Sailfish were around as evidenced by “free jumpers” seen frequently. Catches of 1 or 2 by various boats helped prove this point. Fortunately we caught 1 sailfish on each of our offshore trips. On the other hand we only caught a couple kings or false albacore each trip to add to the sails. All the boats struggled to find a few dolphin for these charters. Swordfish catches have been very good at night. Reports of 2 or 3 fish on a boat have been frequent. The fish are running 75 to 125 pounds in most cases. We fished Saturday night, but like about half the boats out there we went without a swordfish. We did get a 100 pound night shark. This is big game fishing, and as such, you won’t get a sword every trip. When you do it will make up for the slow trip in a hurry. Now is the time to go swordfishing.
