We had a great day on Sunday by just enjoying what was available. My angler, Rob, didn’t care about size or kind of fish as long as they fought well on the tackle we were using. We loaded the wells with pilchards and tried a couple drifts along the edge. We did nothing as did all the boats. With no kings or sails or dolphin, I headed for a wreck in 50 feet of water. When we arrived I anchored up current and started chumming with live pilchards. Rob was soon catching fish as fast as he could fight them to the boat. He caught and released about 25 blue runners from 1 to 5 pounds before they quit hitting. We moved to another wreck in 105 feet of water where we got 4 king mackerel and a little tunny (kept 2 kings). After a few more blue runners, action died there. We tried another wreck in 88 feet, but no action there. I now ran to a reef area in 105 to 120 feet of water and anchored up again. Here the surface action was slow, but the bottom rods that had been silent all day got hot. Over a couple hours Rob got 20+ mutton snapper from 15 to 20 inches (2 to 7 pounds), a 8 or 9 pound red grouper, an amberjack and a couple remoras. Hey not every catch is a positive. To top off the day we also caught and released a 3 or 4 pound sailfish. The dolphins won the football game on the radio and Rob’s arms were shot when we headed home. I am speaking at 4 seminars for January. On the 15th it will be swordfish at the Miami Beach Rod and Reel Club 305-531-1233. On the 16th it will be Deep water bottom fishing at Dusky Sport Center 954-922-8890. On the 18th I will be at the Salt Water Sportsman Seminar in Hollywood. And then on the 22nd it will be Swordfish at the West Palm Beach Fishing club.
