Hot Fishing In Cold Weather

That sums up my latest fishing report. While we have had spurts of cold weather the fishing in Miami is as good as it gets. The sailfish have shown up in good numbers. We have been getting multiple shots at sailfish. At times we have had a couple of fish on at once. The sailfish action should continue for awhile. If you ever wanted to catch a sail now is the time. The bottom bite has not disappointed even with the recent cold weather. As a matter of fact Last Monday we had NNW winds clocking in at 28-30 knots with 37 degree temperatures thrown in to keep you on your toes but the cold weather did not dismay Michael Sights. Instead of canceling we decided to give the fishing a try and Michael was rewarded with a beautiful 22# mutton snapper. In addition to this Mike caught mahi-mahi, kings and sails. Not only did we catch some nice mutton snapper we also caught gag grouper to 30#'s. Throw in amberjacks and other assorted bottom fish and you get the idea. The only bad news is that the grouper fishing is now shut down until April but that still allows us target mutton snapper and if you have fished with me before you know that is one of my favorite fish to target. The kings have kept us entertained and at times have wreaked havoc on our baits. We have actually had to move just so that other fish would have a chance at our baits. The kingfish bite is as good as it gets right now. We have caught mahi-mahi while fishing the edge for sailfish. Although they have been there in good numbers, mostly 3-12# fish I have not caught any large mahi so far but my customers have been taking home a couple of bags of eating fish. The tarpon bite has been consistent. The fish are right outside the inlet right now so it is a very short run to the tarpon grounds and that allows lots of quality fishing time. The swordfish reports I have heard is that the sword fishing is slow and the seas rough due to the north winds that have made the swordfish grounds extremely lumpy. So stay tuned for any changes on that. That brings up date on the fishing. If you have never fished with me I am all about bending rods. I try not to get fixated on a particular species and try to catch what is available at the time. Just because its winter it doesn't mean we can only fish for sailfish. As you can see from my report there are usually other species available. If you don't like to catch sailfish and want to catch eating fish then we can do that.
