live baiting muttons

We fished a half day on Sat. and caught a nice well full of cigars and spanish sardines. With no bites on top all of our bites came on the bottom as expected. Our bottom rod consists of 65lb. PowerPro with a 40 turn Bimini and 70 ft. of 50lb. Ande pink. Instead of a 3-way swivel we connect our main line to the leader with a what I call a double reverse no-name knot in which you tie a 5 turn no-name then wrap 5 turns back over itself and pull tight. Leave a 5in. tag end and half hitch the end snug to the knot then make a small loop with a uni-knot and pull tight. We use a 2lb. bank sinker with a 12 in. piece of 50lb. mono and a regular barrel swivel. You connect your snap to the loop and when your fish comes up you remove your lead and reel the fish to the boat and you don't have to handline all that leader if you wre using a 3-way. We caught a 6 and a 13lb. mutton snapper and 2 kings around 10 lbs. Try this rig out and you'll see how convenient it is. Good luck and tight lines!
