Sailfishing is still the talk of the town. Probably one of the best sailfishing seasons ever. Each year it just keeps getting better. Double digit releases are heard almost every day. Most anglers are having their best luck while kite fishing with live bait. The biggest problem can be finding enough live bait for a day of fishing. Along with the sailfish has been an occasional push of dolphin and the ever present king mackerel. Last week the bottom bite was very good. During a day of bottom fishing my crew caught a catch that included ten mutton snapper three black grouper, one red grouper two amberjack and a few bonito’s. One mutton was over 17 pounds. Two of the blacks were over twenty pounds. Cobia will start to show up on the cleaning tables. Anglers with tuna towers will find them following rays heading south. Also be on the look out for leatherback turtles swimming offshore. It’s almost a sure bet that a few slob cobia will be following them. Action similar to these past few weeks should continue right into March.
