Yesterday we fished in the Rod and Reel Club Sailfish Tournament. We had won top angler last year, but were beat out for top boat. This year was going to be different. We won 1st place boat as well as Top Angler. I fished on the new 34' SeaVee Openfisherman. What a boat! 34 feet of pure fishing machine, a 10 ft. beam and a tower to boot. We ended the day with 8 sailfish. We actually hooked 9 but broke one off. Our top angler this year was Omar Marrero. He won top angler with 5 sailfish releases. We started the day fishing between Triumph Reef and Fowey Rocks. Our first drift yielded one sailfish. On our second drift we had a quadruple (4 sailfish hooked at once). All our kite baits were eaten and we actually had a fifth sailfish cruising the area looking for something to eat. We landed three of the four sails, and now had 5 for the day. We added three more sailfish for a total of eight, and we were comfortably in the lead. Second place boat had 5, so they would need three more to tie us and four to win. As time was trickling down, the cold front which went by hit us, and it started to pour down rain. Although the rain may have dampened some other people's spirits, we were riding high from winning 1St Place. Tight Lines and Good Fishing, Capt. Dean Panos
