Miami - Haulover to Triumph Reef

Strong Stomach Equals Big Payoff If you have a strong stomach the fishing in and around Miami has been very good. The only bad thing has been the rough seas you sometimes have to endure to make the day payoff. Let’s get to some of the reports. The kingfish in and around Miami have been thick. We have been catching them in anywhere from 80 – 140 feet of water. A breakaway sinker rig has given me the best results. The bait of choice overall has been herring. We have been getting anywhere from 4-8 kingfish per trip. The sailfish have also shown up in Miami and given the right conditions you should be able to get a few. If you follow my fishing reports you know that tarpon fishing is one of my favorite species and I am happy to report that they are here. We had several tarpon trips this week and caught fish on every trip we made. While tarpon fishing with the Shultz family we were able to catch a permit on a crab in addition to the four tarpon they had a chance at. Also while tarpon fishing we caught a few spanish mackerel. Sword fishing continues to be hampered by blustery winds from the north. When the winds die down some we will be able to go sword fishing and give you an up to date report so check back to see what is biting on the 50 line. For those of you that like to experience the variety of species Florida has to offer you may want to look into an offshore/inshore trip. We can fish offshore for a couple of hours and then come inshore on the beaches and look for tarpon to finish off the day.
