Miami - Haulover to Triumph Reef

Hot Or Cold That kind of describes the way fishing has been no matter where we have fished. If you fished offshore and had good current and clean water you were able to catch fish. If you had no current and green water you really had to work hard to put together a day’s catch. We caught sailfish on every offshore trip that we did with the exception of one. Again, find the right conditions and you were rewarded with sails. If you didn’t have the right conditions you would pick at them all day long. Add in the fact that we caught bonitos and amberjacks and that would round off our day. The tarpon have been another story altogether. This time last year we were getting anywhere from 2-4 shots a night at tarpon. This year has been a little bit of a challenge. On one night we had 7 local guides fishing between Government Cut and Haulover Cut. Between the 7 of us we managed not a single bite. Than last night we go tarpon fishing and release one going about 115#’s and lost another one of about the same size. This is what I mean by hot and cold. We were able to do one swordfish charter and we went 0/1. We hooked the fish on a green squid with a purple LP light. Unfortunately he went from one end of the boat to the other in a blink of an eye earning his freedom to fight another day. So that is the way the fishing is going. If you’re willing to be patient and put in your work you will be able to make a nice day out of it just be ready to roll up your sleeves. Best of Luck… Capt Gil Gutierrez
