Miami - Haulover to Triumph Reef

Miami Fishing Heats Up The fishing in Miami is finally heating up. Gone are the constant days of green water and no current. That is being replaced with blue water on the reef and some north current. That blue water is leading to some nice sailfish catches. Look for that blue water and some north current and you should be in business. The kingfish have also arrived in Miami and boy are they hungry. We caught a couple on our last trip. The biggest one was over 30#’s and the smallest was over 20#. This is one of those fish that have been missing for a while and they are finally here. Look for the king fishing to steadily improve. Also this week we had mahi-mahi in on the reef in anywhere from 70-90 feet of water. They were thick and they were everywhere. The tarpon continue to remain the unknown variable in all of the fishing going on in Miami. While all the other fishing has improved this one is difficult to figure out. For some reason the fish will not feed. We had a trip where we went 1/2 fishing with Don Malvahill but that has been more of the exception and not the rule. I’m advising most of my customers to skip the tarpon fishing and go off shore where you will have more of a chance to catch different species of fish. We had one swordfish charter scheduled but the north winds got the better of us and the trip was cancelled and rescheduled for another time. That being said several of my friends have caught swordfish in the 175-250# mark so they are definitely here. Well that is it for now till next time Best of Luck… Capt. Gil Gutierrez
