April Fishing Report April has gotten off to a good start. The usual cast of characters that are supposed to be here in April are here and accounted for. There are big mahi-mahi, sailfish, and kingfish and add in the occasional blackfin tuna and that is what you can expect to find in April in Miami. The sailfish have been good to excellent and we have caught some on every trip so far this month. Live chumming with pilchards has been the trick for us when we have no current and light wind days. We have had days when multiple fish crash our spread and caused pandemonium. The mahi-mahi fishing is very good right now with some large fish in the 40 + pound range being taken while live baiting on the edge. The blackfin tuna have avoided us so far but there is some being caught. In all fairness we have not fished the early morning or late afternoon hours that are best for the blackfin tuna. But we will get them. Kingfish are still biting very well. These fish are hitting everything on the kite, flat lines, and mid depth bait. We watched one teenage kingfish sky rocket one of our kite baits about four time and still managed to avoid our hook. I guess that is why they call it fishing and not catching. We are coming into a window of good weather and should be able to go swordfishing so stay tuned for that report. Well that is it for now. If you want to give any of these fisheries a try give me a call and we can try to set something up. April is pretty much booked up but I do have some evening tarpon trips open and I do have several days in May available. Till next time. Best of Luck… Capt. Gil Gutierrez
