Off To A Great Start Boy has the New Year gotten off to a great start. The new 32 SeaVee is running great and I have only been getting positive comments on the new boat. Let’s get to the fishing because that is what everybody really wants to hear about. Last night I had the first tarpon trip of the year on the new boat and boy oh boy did we have a great night. We made 6 drifts and caught tarpon up to 85#’s on four of those drifts. We were drifting with live shrimp on 20# tackle. Unfortunately, the trip was only a four hour trip since my customers were going top fish Flamingo in the morning so we had to call it a night way to soon. I have a feeling if we could have kept fishing we might have added several more fish. The one thing that has been noticeably absent for me has been the kingfish bite. To the north of us they are having a good run of kingfish but those fish have really not poured into our area as of yet. It should only be a matter of time before you start reading about them in my reports so stay tuned for that. I have been getting a lot of calls about sailfish and people asking if they have arrived. We have caught multiple sails on every trip we have done. The sailfish are definitely here. In addition to the sails we have also caught mahi-mahi. We have been catching almost all of our fish on the kite baits. Just last week my friend Eric Castillo missed an estimated 100# yellow fin tuna on a kite bait. You never know who is going to come calling when you are kite fishing. If you have never been kite fishing it is something you should experience. Well that is all for right know I only have 8 open days left in February so if you want to go fishing in February give me a call soon. I do have several days available in March and April. Don’t think about it to much the fishing is good and the weather is great what more can you ask for. Till next time Best of Luck… Capt. Gil, Lucky Fishing Charters
