Mid-February Fishing Report

After fishing a bunch of days it's finally good to have a day off but that won't last to long seeing as I will be right back at it tomorrow. In addition the Miami International Boat Show will also be in town this week which only means a nonstop schedule for the remainder of the week. With that out of the way let's get to the fishing. We will start with some bad news after 14 continuous trips of catching tarpon Mother Nature evened the score with me and would make me go fishless on this particular night. But never fear as I am determined to start a new streak. The tarpon fishing has been very consistent but it seemed to take a little breather from the good solid action we were having. The tarpon fishing is already back up to the standards that we have become accustomed to on board the "Lucky Vee" and that should only continue for the next couple of months. The sailfish continue to be very consistent given the right conditions. Yesterday we were able to catch 10 sails fishing only a three quarter day. And to be honest we had a couple swimming around the boat at the end of the day as we emptied the live well. I asked my customer if he wanted to catch them and he said no he had had enough. I have been catching sails on almost every trip I did since my last report. The only trip we didn't catch a sail on we fished in a nonstop rain calling the trip after half a day of fishing in miserable conditions. But the customers were rewarded with other fish just not sails on that one trip. The bottom bite has been good. The trophy fish so far this month has been a beautiful 26# African Pompano. In addition to that we have caught some nice very legal grouper, which were released due to a closed season. The kingfish have also shown up. There are lots of teenage size fish to be had. But mixed in with those smaller fish have also been some larger kingfish as our largest king was approaching 40#'s.
