February 2015 fishing report Mosquito Lagoon We have had some cool and windy conditions lately but have also had some really calm days with great fishing for Red Fish , Black Drum and Trout . The Reds and Black Drum have been schooled up into groups up to 500 fish thick with the average school being around 50 -75 . These schools will eat usually if approached with stealth and casting shrimp to the edges of the schools . Be careful not to chase the schools to hard this will usually cause them to shut down or run off the flats . On the calmer days fly fishing has been good to great with long cast using shrimp or crab patterns and clousers or other bait fish patterns in natural colors . The Z-Man soft plastics have been working well on overcast or windy days when sight casting is not an option or the old faithful finger mullet . We should have these conditions for the next couple of weeks into March . This can be a great time on the water if you don't mind some cooler weather . The fishing from Daytona Beach to New Smyrna Beach / Mosquito Lagoon has been great. Tight lines Capt.Mike Mann Fat Fish Guide Service
