Great Tailing Redfish Action

Water levels in the Mosquito Lagoon have been very low giving the fish less places to roam. In addition to plentiful schools of reds along the deeper edges of the flats, the reds have been tailing in the shallow grass throughout the day. These fish are prowling through thick grass searching for small crabs and shrimp. They are very spooky and you must approach them with caution. A small weedless soft plastic worked slowly in the grass will catch their attention. Precision casting is required. Land too close to the fish and the will blow out. If the bait is too far away, they will never see it. The schooling reds have been finning near the surface early in the day. As the sun rises, they tend to stay closer to the bottom. We have been having great topwater action by running a shallow running DOA Baitbuster above the schools. A few tarpon are around and we have seen them both in deep water and on the same flats as the redfish. Have a heavier rod rigged with a Baitbuster if you want a shot at these fish.
