Mosquito Lagoon Fishing Report

While many parts of the coutry were getting hit hard by winter storms, the weather here in central Florida has been warm an mild on most days during the past two weeks. Water temperatures in the Mosquito Lagoon have been reaching the 70 degree mark by late afternoons. The redfish and black drum have been tailing actively on the shallow flats on most days. Some are singles but schools of over 200 fish have been been seen this week. A fly or a 1/4 oz DOA shrimp has been effective. While some flats are covered with fish, others seem to be void of all life. When choosing a fishing spot this time of year, look for stingrays and catfish to be present. If some mullet are around, that makes the spot even better. If you pole a flat for ten minutes or so and see none of the above,it's ime to think about moving to another spot. When waters are calm, tailing fish should be easy to spot from a distance.
