Big schools of redfish, black drum, and large seatrout can be found throughout the Lagoon. While the fishing has been consistent, the weather has been less than cooperative. When conditions allow you to get out, look for the fish to be schooled up on the shallow grass flats. A stealthy approach is the most important factor as these shallow water schools are on high alert for danger. A good pair of polarized glasses will help you spot the fish on sunny days. The redfish have been eating a variety of lures including 3" DOA CALs, DOA shrimp, and spinnerbaits. Trout will eat the same lures and also like the 4 and 5 inch CAL baits. Drum, on the other hand, have been much more receptive to flies than most lures. Soft plastic crabs and shrimp will work, though. Move the bait very slowly along the bottom for best results.

Tight Lines,

Capt. Chris Myers
