Mosquito Lagoon Report

The summertime fishing is great but our weather, as of late, has been a bit disappointing. Usually, July brings slick calm mornings which allow you to see redfish tails from a long distance. Nearly every day for the past couple weeks, the wind has been blowing and plenty of clouds have been hanging around as well. While sight fishing has been a challenge, the redfish, drum, and large trout have been willing to bite. A five inch DOA CAL with a Woodies Rattle is a good all around lure for this time of year. Trout to 30 inches have been willing to eat it, even in the middle of the day. This same bait is effective of summer redfish as is a shallow running Baitbuster. As you travel from one spot to another, watch for bait being crashed on the surface in deeper water. Schools of huge ladyfish are still roaming around and can provide some great aerial action on topwater plugs.
