June 2013 It has been a little busy the last month or so between tournaments and weather but where's theirs a will there's a way to fish. It seems that the southern lagoon and Indian River Lagoon has been affected by another algae bloom. The northern lagoon system seems to be ok as i was being told by a biologist taking water samples the other day. He said the green tint to the water is caused by the influx of rain that we have had over the last couple of weeks including the tropical storm. We are still catching good numbers of both red fish and trout along with the occasional flounder and jack here and there. Pig fish and pin fish have been the trick for the red fish and as far a s artificial Aqua Dream Spoons and top water plugs have been doing the job. The trout bite has been good on pig fish and finger mullet and for artificial top waters and twitch baits have been doing well also.Bouncing the mud and sand bottoms around New Smyrna and Edgewater with soft plastics has been producing the flounder bite. You can find large schools of jacks hanging around the seawalls in the New Smyrna Bch and Daytona Bch area mixed in with the bait. They can be caught on several different baits but my favorite has to be a top water plug. Good Luck and be safe Capt Patrick Rood www.spotntailcharters.com (386) 566- 1394
