Ponce Inlet to Mosquito Lagoon

The fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon has been good for the most part. The flats are housing some gator trout that are holding in the white sand holes. They are not the easiest fish to sight cast to. The key is seeing them way before they see you. Then make a perfect cast and may be she will take your bait. Reds are a little easier target, especially when you have a school of two hundred fish in front of the boat. We have been seeing schools of reds in the lagoon tailing and flashing when they are calm. If you find schools of reds that will not set still when you try to sight cast to them. Pole to where the fish are in a long cast distance and anchor up. Cast your baits around the school and wait for them. This beats chasing them around all day laying baits on their heads only pushing them more. I have found this technique effective especially with inexperienced casters. Trout are taken much easier using this method verses sight casting. The lagoon is also giving up some pompano, ladyfish, jacks, flounder and sheapshead. Remember: Think like a fish to catch fish.
