October was a very busy month for me fishing close to 30 trips and the fishing was excellent. Tarpon were the main focus on almost every trip and they did not let us down. They were on the beaches in the glass minnows mixed in with bonita, sharks and mackeral and in and around the passes feeding on huge mullet schools. It was the best month of tarpon fishing I have ever seen. On the days where the wind was out of the north and the waters were milky and choppy the mullet were pushing up the beach by the thousands. The best day I think we hooked around 16 tarpon with most fish over 130lbs. The average day we hooked 6 fish, and on some of the days where the waters were clear we had to really hunt to find them. The biggest fish of the month and ever caught on my boat was by 12yr old Paulie Difranco. The fish ate a live mullet in the middle of the day and was boatside in under 2hrs. I would estimate the fish at close to 200lbs, we tried getting a length and girth, but the fish bent the hook out and was just to big for me to hold one handed. We also caught some really big snook on live mullet while tarpon fishing around the passes. {%image_id=17988%} {%image_id=17987%}{%image_id=17986%}{%image_id=17985%}{%image_id=17984%}
