I have been doing some serious traveling the last month and a half and just got back in town last week. I spent three weeks working at a lodge on Kodiak Island, Alaska fishing for halibut, rockfish and salmon. That was a great experience to say the least, what a great fishery they have. I then flew to straight to Boston to meet my wife and son in Maine. I did not pick up a rod the whole time I was there. I did get to surf everyday, which made up for it. Since coming home I have fished two trips and its been pretty good. The bait is small, but all over the beaches. Snook have been feeding good on the beaches and in the passes. I didnt get any big fish, yet the ones I caught were nice. The snapper are all over the place, and make for great action and a good meal. The nice thing is the TARPON are still here and eating. They are in a few areas to speak of, but I have been concentrating on the beaches. Live threads are my bait of choice right now, the mackeral and small sharks are ripping up all my baitbusters. Big schools of glass monnows are in about 10-20ft of water and thats where I am finding the tarpon. They are all different sizes, this morning I had Ryan and Todd Barker on the boat. We ran a long way to get threads, but once we got to our spot the tarpon were waiting. Ryan threw out a bait, and a big fish around 130lbs inhailed it. The fish jumped about 10 times and then threw the hook, right at the boat on a huge jump 15 minutes into the fight.
