Half Day Reef Trip

Two anglers onboard yesterday.  First stop was a ledge in 30 feet of water where I was trying to target Gag Grouper.  Was not marking much for bait or fish on the bottom, but we decided to give it a quick try anyways.  Dropped down two heavy rods with pinfish and after about 10 minutes without a bite swapped out one of the heavy rods for a light spinning rods with a small piece of cut bait.  Sure enough as soon as the light rod got down it was immediately hit and we broke off on the ledge.  We got broke off two more times by gags and after about an hour decided to jump a little further offshore to a natural reef in about 40 feet of water.  Action was a little quicker on the reef, but we did have to sort through some grunts and short red grouper.  At the end of the trip our haul was a dozen lane snapper to  16", a couple Spanish mackerel, and numerous released red grouper.  We did not end up with anything huge, but it was a beautiful day with calm seas and lots of action.{%image_id=50747%}
