Naples Red Grouper Bite Continues

Greetings Cyberanglers! Here in the Naples and Marco Island Region, the Red Grouper bite remains outstanding on the offshore waters! {%image_id=28929%} Aboard "The Grand Slam", I have been pushing out to 50-feet of water depth and finding a solid mixed bag of Lane and Mangrove Snapper over the hardbottom areas employing live Pilchards and "bits" of squid fished on a Chicken rig. In these same areas, large aggregates of Red Grouper are chewing as well. Big live baits to include: Threadfin Herring, Pinfish and Grunts are producing limits for those willing to put in the work. {%image_id=28928%} {%image_id=28930%} While there is now a hint of fall in air both early and late in the fishing day coupled with slight cooling of Gulf temperatures here in the region, I am finding that the Red Grouper are slowly pushing out to their deeper haunts. I expect this trend to continue, so with each passing week expect further runs offshore to produce quality Red Grouper catches. Closer to the beaches, anglers are tangling with a healthy mix of Spanish Mackerel and Sharks on the nearshore structure. Heavy chumming with frozen block and live Pilchards has the fish "chummed up" and "chewing" quickly. Casting bucktail jigs, 2-inch Clark spoons and free-lining live Pilchards on a light 30#-wire trace will keep the rods bent and the drags screaming. Cyberanglers, expect this fun nearshore bite to really ramp up in the next few weeks as more Pelagic species begin to filter south through the Naples and Marco Island waters!
