Naples Tarpon Fishing 9/6/09

The tarpon fishing has been out of control the last two weeks in Naples. Big schools of glass minnows have invaded the beaches and big fish are hungry. Tarpon, sharks and mackeral are putting on a show. I have even seen some 20lb kingfish skying on baits. I have been on the water at 545am trying to get big silver mullet, but early morning tides the last four days are weak and it's tough getting the mullet. If you spend time getting threads, you won't find the tarpon. It's an early morning bite and the mackeral would eat all your threads in 15 minutes. DOA Baitbusters are also doing well, but the fish are in 30-70lb range. I did see Capt Jeff Legutkis client hook a fish over 100lbs this morning on artificial. The average fish on mullet has been 100lbs, we hooked 27 fish in three mornings plus some big blacktips.
