Spring Break Fishing

Its been an extremely busy March for us, but I finally found a minute to write about what we have been catching. Short of 2 days where the weather was too rough to fish we have been on the water every day. The Snapper fishing has been solid and we have been catching mangroves up to 18" using jigs tipped with either pilchards or live shrimp around ledges in the 40-60 foot range. We have been also catching gag grouper to 30" incidentally (they are currently out of season). The water has been getting warmer and we have been catching more and more sharks (hammerheads & Blacktips). For the sharks we have been using Spanish mackerel or Blue Runners for bait. We have also been catching the occasional King Mackerel by free lining pilchards with a small piece of wire. We have caught a few goliaths as well this month which are always exciting for people that have never seen one! Overall fishing has been great and should continue to get better as the water continues to warm up! {%image_id=53044%}{%image_id=53043%}{%image_id=53042%}{%image_id=53041%}{%image_id=53040%}{%image_id=53039%}{%image_id=53038%}{%image_id=53037%}{%image_id=53036%}{%image_id=53035%}
