July is about over and the fishing is still red hot on the flats for Redfish in the middle to upper slot range. I'm hooking most of my redfish in depths of 2 – 3 ft on artificials like the MirrOdine 17MR and Bass Assassin's 4" Blurp shrimp (electric chicken) on a 1/4oz jig head. James shows off a nice slot redfish! {%image_id=11197%} Steve is all smiles after he landed this red! {%image_id=11198%} These baits have been great for both reds and trout this year, and both species have produced some quality catches this past week. Some of the reds are also coming from the pass deep dropping live baits. Billy and Micky had a good time hooking up nice upper slot reds in Pensacola Pass! {%image_id=11199%} We've caught some nice speckled trout between 17 and 19 inches, and even a few over the 20-inch mark. The bluefish bite is still sufficient in Pensacola Bay and in Big Lagoon. Make sure you use a 50 lb leader or steel leader, so not to get cutoff; cutoffs can be expensive if you lose a few lures each trip. I've been out only a few times for Kings as the weather has made the gulf a little bumpy, but when I was able to go out in the gulf the bite was very good for both kings and Spanish. Tight Lines.
