Snook fishing the river

Well once again my day started at 4 am backing my boat down the ramp to launch it into the north fork of the St. Lucie river. I was preparing to catch bait for the days fishing. After catching several finger mullet and about 2 dozen 3 inch bunker i decided to idle over to the new Roosevelt bridge to try to catch a couple of snook before my clients showed up. Between 5 and 530 am i managed to capture 2 snook on swimbaits. Then the phone rang and right away i knew my clients were waiting. So after a short run from the dock i rigged one of the small finger mullet and tossed him on the edge of the seawall. Within about 5 minutes the fight was on, it was a fight especially on the red power pro in the 2 lb diameter class. well wouldnt you know it was a snook that was just under the slot 27 1/2 inches long. we released that one and put another bait against the seawall. Just like that the fight was on once again. This time it was one of those pesky jacks. Determined to catch another snook we yet baited another hook and you guessed it back against the seawall. This time when the drag went screaming it was another ....JACK. We did manage to catch another snook along the seawall but it was about 25 inches long. After the seawall we decided to try some docks and we found one that was particularly good, so we stayed there until about 10:50 am and called it a day. All in all we wound up with 12 snook (one in the slot)2 jacks, 1 snapper, 1 trout, 1 moonfish and 1 flounder. Not to shabby despite the water being a little dirtier than it has been in the river. I think this weekend if the weather allows i will be fishing the beach in search of the mighty megalops atlanticus. Well until next week good luck and see you on the water.
