South Indian River, Port St Lucie & Fort Pierce

Indian River Report  March 24, 2005 INSHORE: It's been the typical Florida weather this week. Warm and sunny one day and rainy the next. The warm temperatures and mild winds late in the week have helped the fishing. Water temperatures have stayed on the warmer sides since the night temps have been near 70 degrees part of the week. The water clarity is still good in spite of rain and wind earlier in the week and it should continue to improve going into the weekend. A lot of redfish are on the shallow flats, but are quick to seek deeper water at the slightest sound or sight. Keep quiet and fish with live bait or gold spoons for a chance at a red. Persistence and patience will reap the rewards on the flats. With the warmer weather, the fishing on the flats will only get better. Jacks are still all over the river and hitting just about anything. They will take live shrimp around the inlet areas and hit most any artificial you might throw at them. Pompano are still around the river and jumping like crazy. Try the flats on the east side of the river to find them. Trout and snook are hitting the flats now and looking for action. Trout have been hitting in 2-4 feet of water and taking jigs and spoons. Snook are also patrolling the flats for food. Use jigs, spoons or live bait for a chance at a linesider. Greg from PSL boated a 29" snook this week in 18" of water. Top water on calm mornings are another good way to get into some flats action. Bridges are still producing a lot of fish. Devin boated a 22" black drum from under the bridge this week. Sheephead and a variety of species are always lurking around the pilings for a quick snack. Live baits is working great around the bridges. It's been a great week on the water. Fishing is not just another hobby....it's an ADVENTURE! Hope you had a chance to get out fishing! Good Fishing!
